LGBTQ+ folks have been principal targets recently of Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds and her Republican legislative allies, but that doesn't seem to have diminished support for the various Pride events in progress across the state this weekend, including Cedar Rapids and Des Moines.
Today's Pridefest parade in Des Moines begins at noon at the capitol, then proceeds into the East Village.
I've borrowed a couple of photos here, taken yesterday as the celebration got underway, from the Episcopal Diocese of Iowa Facebook page and from the personal page of the Rev. Canon Meg Wagner.
That's the Rev Lizzie Gillman, one of the priests at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Des Moines (above), sharing a blessing with a participant, and Wagner, diocesan canon to the ordinary, at right below.
Some churches focus on pushing queer folks away during these contentious times; others, on welcoming everyone in. I'm happy to be affiliated this morning with one of the latter.
