Endangered: Floris Christian Church

It's too cold to venture out with a camera, so I've been sifting through the thousands of images that live on this hard drive. This is another endangered building photographed during October of 2005. The Floris Christian Church has looked this way for as long as I can remember --- and still does. But one of these days it is likely to fall down, be pushed down or burn down.

Floris is a tiny town in a very pretty place in far north Davis County, about halfway down the shortcut between Bloomfield and Eldon (or Eldon and Bloomfield, depending upon which way you're going). The bonus of this route is at the east end when you get to climb the Des Moines River bridge from the westside bottom to the eastside bluff --- kind of neat.

If you look at the sign over the door, you'll see that this building was constructed in 1895 --- and I've not seen another quite like it elsewhere: An elaborate steeple appended to the side, rather than the end, of what otherwise is a very plain building.

It's fun to fantasize about what someone with a little imagination and lots of money might do with this old church. But fantasy most likely is about as far as it's going to get.
