The Obamas and those portraits ....

It made me happy to see Barack and Michelle Obama back at the White House Wednesday for the unveiling of official portraits commissioned by the White House Historical Association. Robert McCurdy created his; Sharon Sprung, hers.

I'm thinking that I liked the earlier portraits by Kehinde Wiley (his) and Amy Sherald (hers), commissioned by the Smithsonian Institution's National Portrait Gallery and introduced in 2018, a little better --- but that's a matter of taste. These certainly are more conventional, appropriate for display in the White House.

Here's a video released by the Obama Foundation that serves as an introduction to the artists responsible for the new portraits.
