Bringing Ophelia Powless home ...

I fancied something caustic --- perhaps a political cartoon --- for my mental breakfast this morning, but alighted instead on this charming and uplifting little Story Corps piece, broadcast Friday morning on NPR's "Morning Edition."

It involves the quest by Kirby Metoxen, a member of the Oneida Nation, to bring the remains of little Ophelia Powless home to Wisconsin from the cemetery of the Carlisle Indian School in Pennsylvania. He tells his story here, briefly, to his vicar --- the Rev. Rodger Patience, pastor of the Episcopal Church of Holy Apostles on the Oneida reservation.

Once you've followed the link, hit the "play" arrow.
