Images of church signs emblazoned with pithy messages, Photoshopped and otherwise, are a dime a dozen out there in cyberland. But some are authentic, including notable examples like this one and many others posted by the Rev. Adam Ericksen and staff at Clackamas United Church of Christ, located in a Portland, Oregon, suburb.
Google the congregation's name under "Images" and you'll find dozens of others --- "The Bible Proves God is a Woman; It's by Men Explaining what She Said"; "Jesus Was a Person of Color Murdered by State-sanctioned Violence"; "In the Realm of God, No One is Illegal"; "Jesus Healed the Sick Without Co-pay; Be Like Jesus"; "Our Transgender Children Have Heartbeats"; and many others.
The UCC is near the top of my list of favorite denominations --- along with, of course, The Episcopal Church and the Unitarian Universalist Association; all practitioners of radical inclusion. They're certainly among the reasons there may be hope for a religious tradition that includes thousands of sects, many of which seem increasingly to be drowning in a sea of sour milk, related in name only to the gentleman whose name they claim.
Here's a link to the Clackamus UCC website for more information about the congregation and the denomination that have generated this "sign ministry."
