Happy 70th birthday to Dr. Fisher's little building

Many of us who originate in and around Chariton had our first exposure to dentistry in this little building just off the northeast corner of the square, which celebrated its 70th birthday on or about Oct. 1, 1949, the date when Dr. Merriam C. Fisher (1909-1975) moved in.

I'd have taken a fresh photograph (this one is several years old, taken in winter) of it, had it not already been dark last evening when I stumbled across the following article published in The Herald-Patriot of Oct. 4, 1949:

DR. FISHER IS NOW IN HIS NEW OFFICE

Dr. M.C. Fisher, formerly located in the First State bank building, is now in his new offices across the street south of the Hotel Charitone.

A new building has been erected on this spot, built especially for a dentist's office, with the exception of one room which has a separate entrance and is used by Bob Larimer as his investment and insurance office.

Dr. Fisher has the latest of facilities, including laboratories, operating rooms, etc. He has seven rooms at his disposal and all on the ground floor.

It's not a big building, it's not a fancy building and its stucco exterior could stand a little paint, perhaps. But its walls have stood the test of time.
