The Lucas County Historical Society Museum campus will come alive on "A Night at the Museum" for kids of all ages late next Saturday afternoon and early evening, October 12. Although designed specifically for youngsters and their parents, all will be welcomed to the free event.
Patterned loosely after the 2006 film, "A Night at the Museum," the event will begin at 4 p.m. when characters from Lucas County's past come alive at various places --- the Stephens House, Pioneer Log Cabin, Puckerbrush School, Blacksmith Shop and Otterbein Church among them. Cowboy Billy will be on hand to entertain around the campfire; a free light supper of hot dogs and trimmings will be served (courtesy of Hy-Vee) and the event will conclude with a showing of the 2006 film in the Pioneer Barn.
Everyone is invited to come in Halloween costume for a costume parade. Naturally there will be treats --- in addition to hot dogs --- but no tricks and nothing designed to be scary.
The event is being planned and coordinated by the historical society's Events Committee in cooperation with the Chariton Free Public Library and the city of Chariton, in addition to Hy-Vee.
