Summers arrives in Chariton

OK, so I was just a little snarky Thursday when Christian Summers called to invite me to Friday morning's open house at Summers Insurance, formerly the South Central Insurance Agency and before that, South Central Mutual Insurance. I believe I said something about "whiplash," referring  to the fact the agency has changed hands twice now in recent years and, like many Lucas Countyans, I deplore change.

Now, having met the new crew, I'm filled with remorse --- but as a family we have had insurance, after all, with South Central since Noah deplaned --- or splashed off the ark, whichever.

South Central was sold a couple of years ago for various reasons to the Danish Mutual Insurance Association, headquartered in Elk Horn. Now the agency is back in local hands. Summers Insurance, still located in the Shelton Building at 1920 West Court Avenue, will continue to represent Danish Mutual as well as many other insurers.

That's the Summers Insurance crew above, centered around Dixie Corder, customer service manager and a 14-year South Central veteran. Standing from left are Jason Summers, president; daughter Kinnick Summers; Christian Summers (licensed agent); Faith Powless (personal lines manager); and Scarlett Summers.

The Summers, of Albia, recently purchased Johnson Insurance there, so now there are two Summers Insurance offices in the south of Iowa. Scarlett, by the way, is a Lucas County native, daughter of Pat and the late Clayton Blue, of Russell. If you're reading this, Julia and Elizabeth, she's your distant cousin.
