If the National Weather Service is to be believed, it's already 61 degrees here before dawn in the south of Iowa in mid-December (with a predicted high above 70). That's unusual.
Then there's that high wind warning, due to kick in after lunch and accelerate into the evening.
So I've already tied a string to my finger so as not to forget to move the garbage can into the garage for the duration.
The really scary part is neither the high temperature nor the strong wind warning, although both are concerning, but the combination that generates situations from which storms of extreme violence can arise.
The Chariton Community School District, like many others, has scheduled 90-minute early dismissal, hoping among other things to get high-profile buses off the roads before the strongest gusts of wind arrive.
Usually, this time of year, we'd be concerned about blizzards. Not this year (so far).
Climate change? You bet. Why? Feel free to discuss --- in a civilized manner.
But for heaven's sake, stop with the denials.
