On a lighter note: National Pig Day

So as spring approaches, I've been attempting to hold onto sanity in turbulent times by following the calving season in South Dakota, lambing season across the British isles and the antics of a Hungarian breed of pig --- Mangalitza (or Mangalitsa) --- on Dutch farmer Jeff Korsmit's modest spread.

This is one way an old farm boy amuses himself courtesy of Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and more.

As it happens, Wednesday was National Pig Day --- set aside to celebrate a critter I actually prefer packaged and labeled "bacon," "sausage" and "ham" rather than in person. Piggish personalities never won me over, growing up.

But there's something appealing about the Hungarian Mangalitza, which has a curly coat. So here are two images of that breed from Farmer Jeff's Instagram feed.
