From Missouri to the Poland-Ukraine border

I've followed for about two years historian and YouTube vlogger J. D. Huitt (above) who, operating under the title "The History Underground," has been turning out amazing content rooted in extensive research and personal visits to historic sites in the Midwest, the United States as a whole and elsewhere in the world.

Huitt is home-based in the small town of Bourbon, Missouri, southwest of St. Louis, where he teaches history at Bourbon High School.

During the last couple of weeks, following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, he has taken a leave of absence and traveled from Missouri to the Poland-Ukraine border with his son, initially at least to volunteer with the organization World Central Kitchen.

There's a compelling reason for his interest --- Huitt and his wife have a family of three children, siblings adopted some years ago from a Ukraine orphanage. He explained the blackground in a March 15 post entitled, "Ukraine and the Immediate Future of This Channel."

The following is his first post from the border. As Huitt points out, he's undecided about the course his channel will take now. But for the moment, this dispatch is worth watching.
