I came across a graphically enhanced version of this pronouncement, attributed to George Takei, among this morning's social media wisdom --- and it resonated. So the first step was to figure out whether or not Mr. Takei actually said it. And the answer appears to be "yes" --- posted to his Twitter feed during June of last year.
It's a useful reminder to the diminishing number of self-identified Christians who actually head for church this morning of one of the reasons why so many of the pews are empty these days --- Christians themselves.
Among the folks I grew up among, the conviction seemed to be that those who ascended to heaven once life was done would find no Catholics there --- and no Jews, and no adherents to anything other than the correct Protestant faith tradition. My little Catholic friends were being taught the same thing --- substituting Protestant for Catholic --- during their religious education classes.
As I grew older, I learned that there was no place on that golden shore for LGBTQ folks like myself. And now, we're often told, there will be no Democrats there. Such a dreary place. So little incentive to hitch a ride on the Christian train to glory.

I appreciate George's sentiment and am also glad I won't be heading to Straight White Christian Heaven when I kick the bucket, sounds boring anyway.
