I've been reading some of the commentary (and comments on commentary) this morning about the passing overnight at age 99 of HRH the Prince Philip.
No, I'm not a huge fan of the Royal Family nor do I follow the adventures and misadventures of its various members. Certainly not interested in arrangements being made for that young couple now living in California to attend last rites.
But still. The queen and her consort have been symbols of continuity and stability in an otherwise frazzled world for nearly as long as I've been around.
And so it makes me sad to lose a part of that equation --- now passing as everything human and transitory must do.
