It will be good to be back in church this morning --- for the first time since last November when the bishop closed Episcopal churches across Iowa as a way to combat skyrocketing numbers of coronavirus cases.
In the interim --- as embarrassing as it is to confess --- I'd forgotten what time the morning service begins and had to ask. Was it 10 a.m., or 10:30? The correct answer is 10 a.m.
I'm also having difficulty adjusting to the fact I've got to get dressed before lunch on a Sunday and will have to have breakfast before mid-morning.
We'll continue to observe the rules of the pandemic --- masks, social distancing and attention to sanitation. But as the number of new cases declines and the number of those inoculated increases, there's hope now.
And sorrow, too, of course --- remembering a friend and fellow communicant who was killed by the virus.
