The hymn for the day, since it is Sunday morning after all, is a new one by a young man (left) named Daniel Deitrich, worship leader at an outfit that calls itself the South Bend City Church in South Bend, Indiana.
It gained traction on social media platforms last week after progressive guru Shane Claiborne featured it in a blog post at Red Letter Christians under the headline, "When Worship Is Resistance."
It's been described as a love song directed toward that thread of Christian expression we now call "evangelical," looking back to a day when its focus was on winning souls rather than winning elections.
The title reference is to the 81 percent of evangelical Christians who some statisticians have concluded are wholehearted supporters of the incumbent president, Donald Trump. Here it is:
