Comes sad news this morning of the passing at age 74 of Miss Jessye Norman, diminishing us all.
The foundation of her life's work was laid in the music of the Georgia church she grew up in.
So here's a recording of "Deep River," made during a 1990 "Spirituals in Concert" performance (with Kathleen Battle) at Carnegie Hall. James Levine conducted the orchestra and accompanying choir.
