Thank you to everyone who turned out between 5 and 7 p.m. yesterday for the annual Shrove Tuesday pancake supper at St. Andrew's! All proceeds from this free-will-offering event go to the Ministry Center Food Bank, so it's gratifying when the parish hall is full --- and it was this year, from beginning to end.
We weren't quite sure how many would venture out --- first, it's still very cold (9 degrees this morning) and, secondly, iced-over piles of snow produced by winter clearance of the parking lot have reduced the available space by at least a third. But it all worked out and the number served was outstanding.

Parishioners staffed the kitchen and Girl Scouts (who use the parish hall as a meeting place) formed a good share of the wait staff and sold cookies on the side. Hy-Vee donated the ham, and we're grateful for that, too.
This is the first year I've not worked in the kitchen, but used the time instead to deal with candles that had burned down during the post-Epiphany season and get the service booklets ready for the Lenten season. Then, of course, enjoyed pancakes and ham toward the end while visiting with friends.
Today is Ash Wednesday, with the service at St. Andrew's scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Have a blessed Lent, no matter how you choose (or not) to observe it!
