I'll vote during 2020 for whoever wins the Democratic Party's nomination for president, of course. But the more I see (and hear) of Pete Buttigieg, the more I like him. That's "Mayor Pete," left, as he prefers to be called, with his husband, Chasten Glezman, last June just after their marriage in South Bend, Indiana. Buttigieg's the mayor; Glezman, a teacher.
Buttigieg was in Iowa last on March 4 during stops in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City.
Hopefully, this is not overreaction on my part to another pretty face and I'm trying to move beyond the obvious advantages offered by Buttigieg --- who is both gay and an Episcopalian.
He's also young! Only 37. I'm trying not to be ageist about this, but Bernie Sanders, at 77, and Joe Biden, at 76, are too old. Elizabeth Warren, 69, or Kamala Harris, 54, would be great candidates, too. Not much has been heard from Beto O'Rourke lately.
Whatever the case, it's going to be an interesting race toward the nomination.
Here's a good line from Buttigieg's Sunday CNN Town Hall appearance: “I have more years of government experience under my belt than the president. I also have more years of executive government experience than the vice president, and more military experience than anybody to walk into that office on day once since George H. W. Bush.”
The candidate, a veteran of the war in Afghanistan, serves as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Reserve.
