Killing time this morning while waiting for the internet gods to restore connectivity, I churned out this --- not an especially effective combination of image and type. But it was the prayer that counted, from the Book of Common Prayer and among those we turned to this week during evensong.
Among things striking about another contentious week in our disunited state of America has been the spectacle of old white people screaming at each other about the impending confirmation vote for a U.S. Supreme Court candidate whose elevation is seen by many as an opportunity to shore up the increasingly shaky foundation of white, doctrinaire Christian exceptionalism. Even Mr. Kavanaugh screamed.
Notably missing have been voices of the young and of the diverse elements --- racial, cultural, religious (or non-religious) and otherwise --- that increasingly form the American fabric. They're out there, we're not listening. But we will be.
Personally, I've more faith in the future than in the past and look forward to the day.
