Does anyone remember Frank Davis, 1896-1978?

I've been trying to figure out who this gentleman is, buried in a scrap of land in the southwest part of the Chariton Cemetery bounded on the north by the Copeland mausoleum and elsewhere by driveways that curve around it. As burial places go, this is kind of a prestigious address but may have been selected because no one else wanted the spot.

The following brief notice, nothing more, was published in The Herald-Patriot of July 20, 1978, under the headline, "Graveside services held for Frank Davis" ---

"Graveside funeral services were held for Frank Davis, 82, this morning at the Chariton Cemetery with the Rev. Father C. J. Gaul conducting.

"Davis resided at the McCollum Residential Care Facilities in Chariton for several years. He died Monday at the Chariton Manor where he had been a patient for the last 10 days following hospitalization in the Lucas County Memorial Hospital."

The funeral home marker was placed by "Reece Service," so that Ottumwa funeral home most likely handled the arrangements. I can find no mention of his death in The Courier, however.

There is a Korean War flag holder at the grave, but the Social Security Death Index gives Sept. 6, 1896, as Frank's date of birth. He would have been 50 when World War II ended, so while service during the Korean War era is possible it's not too likely.

He doesn't appear to be related to any of the Lucas County Davis families.

So who is he? There are a couple of other research avenues I can follow, given time. But decided to start by asking if anyone out there remembers him.
