Lunch with the Mason Marauders

OK, so I made up the name "Mason Marauders," but my cousins Ken and Marcia Mason and their spouses, Sharon Mason and Jack Lufkin, were on their way to Corydon Saturday to defend the family honor that evening as part of the Mason team during Trivia Night, a benefit for the Wayne Junior Optimist Club. So it seemed like a team name was in order. Mason siblings Richard and David still live in Wayne County.

They stopped in Chariton at noon to take me to lunch at the Charitone (thank you very much) and for a couple of hours of conversation --- and gossip. That's Ken and Marcia flanking me on the left; Sharon and Jack on the right. Ken and Sharon live in Overland Park, Kansas; Marcia and Jack, in West Des Moines.

Both the Masons and I are bi-county --- having grown up on the Lucas-Wayne county line, they on the south side, me on the north side, we can go either way. So they went to school at Wayne Community, but to church at First United Methodist in Chariton --- where Mary Stierwalt was one of Ken's confirmation class mentors.

Anyhow, it was great to see them.

We met up at the Lucas County Genealogical Society's open house at Chariton Free Public Library, but couldn't stick around for the program. Here are a few shots taken just as that event was getting underway. It sounds like they had a good crowd and a great program.
