The devil, you say?

As far as tempests in teapots go, maybe the week's best involves debate about whether or not the devil in Mark Burnett's and Roma Downey's Sunday school epic "The Bible" looks like Barack Obama. Unlikely I'll tune into the History Channel to check this out, but --- judging from screen caps --- about the only resemblance between Moroccan actor Mehdi Ouazzani and the president is brown skin. That might be enough for some.

I was curious enough to look up Diogo Morgado, the Portuguese actor who portrays Jesus. Golly, ain't he purty? Kind of like a cross between Brad Pitt and that bearded lady image that used to be (and perhaps still is) favored by American protestants.  Who knew Jesus had highlights? I wonder who his hairdresser was.

Personally, I'm going to watch Bernardo Bertolucci's epic "Little Buddha" again and meditate on the resemblance between Keanu Reeves and Prince Siddhartha. I kind of liked this little film when it came out back in 1994 --- Sunday school fare from another religious tradition. Even had it on video. Besides, Chris Isaak (portraying the architect father of the reincarnated) earned a Razzie nomination as "worst new star" for his performance in this one. Who could ask for more?
