Or should I say jonquil? Or narcissus? As it turns out, narcissus is the proper name, but the others are equally acceptable and "daffodil" the most likely among English-speakers.
Whatever the case, I've been watching these and others in the museum garden and was gratified to find the earliest varieties in bloom when I went out after lunch on Palm Sunday.
So I'm encouraged after what seemed to be a brutal March. Now I'll be watching for the first blossoms on the star magnolia.
