Monday was Martin Luther King Jr. Day and I had a favorite quote ready to go for the occasion. And then it turned out that I was unsure of the source.
So two days later, here it is, taken from Dr. King's 1964 Nobel Peace Price acceptance lecture, delivered on Dec. 11, 1964. It is not, as occasionally attributed, from his acceptance speech.
Sourcing can seem like a minor point, I suppose --- but it's not. If you're going to borrow someone else's words to make your point, make sure that you're repeating them accurately and that you understand the context.
It's been 58 years and we've still not learned to walk together. So plenty remains to do.
