Well, the week is off to a promising start. Ukraine is bracing for a renewed Russian assault from the east; in Cedar Rapids early Sunday, gunmen strolled into a nightclub and opened fire, killing two and injuring 10 others, one critically; and down in Texas, a woman was arrested for murder after a miscarriage (apparently those charges will be dropped).
We do live in interesting times, a quick review of my favorite newspapers suggests.
And Republicans continue to act out absurd and destructive fantasies at all levels, bless their hearts and God bless America.
Dana Milbank, syndicated columnist for The Washington Post, authored a favorite think piece of the last week, highlighting the Grand Old Party's slide into neofascism.
"Is the GOP 'a party built on fraud, fear and fascism'? Milbank writes. "Certainly, not all Republicans think this way. But too many others are subverting democracy, cavorting with white nationalists, spreading racist fears and fantasizing about extrajudicial punishment for political opponents and the media. For them, the jackboot fits."
