I spotted this bright burst of natural color among the faux flora on Chariton Cemetery's south hill yesterday evening while photographing a nearby tombstone.
It's located in the Curtis Bros. enclave and in its enthusiasm has covered the grave of little Marilyn Ann Brown, stillborn during January of 1947. She is buried next to her parents, C. Norman and Carrie Mae (Curtis) Brown.
Rose of Sharon is a full-summer blooming variety of hibiscus that thrives in Iowa and you can find several examples around town. But if you're walking through the cemetery, this one is available to be examined close-up.
