I came across this morning a snippet of poetry, "Daffodowndilly" by A.A. Milne (1882-1956), and liked it better than the conventional and more popular work on the theme by Wordsworth. So here it is:
She wore her yellow sun-bonnet,
She wore her greenest gown;
She turned to the south wind
And curtsied up and down.
She turned to the sunlight
And shook her yellow head,
And whispered to her neighbour:
"Winter is dead."
A good fit for this photo, taken yesterday while watching daffodils open.
Here's another Milne quote --- a caution to preachers planning to expound on an Old Testament theme this morning: "The Old Testament is responsible for more atheism, agnosticism, disbelief—call it what you will—than any book ever written; it has emptied more churches than all the counter-attractions of cinema, motor bicycle and golf course."
Happy Sunday!
