Come tiptoe through the --- narcissi

Although our Dutch neighbors at Pella have been putting up a brave front, there has to be consternation up there this morning as "Tulip Time" week launches (the festival is scheduled for Tuesday-Saturday).

Due to our chilly late March and April, quite a few of those thousands of bulbs have decided that it's not quite time to bloom.

I'm sure that there will be a good time anyway, just perhaps not as colorful.

The same is true in Chariton, where I found a few tulips of a lilac hue and some whites blooming late yesterday afternoon in the museum garden.

What we do have are a good number of narcissi --- and a good number of varieties.

The tulips will be along later and here, at least, that will be just fine.
