A few of us are going to get together when daylight gains another half an hour or so to pick up cigarette butts, scraps of paper and other debris that accumulates on the square.
This may not be the most inspiring way to start a day, but I'm guessing we'll be thinking about the folks in Moore, Oklahoma, who lost everything in yesterday's massive tornado that killed at least 51. And how lucky we are to have a square to clean, even though it's a little rickety and gets littered sometimes with stuff people cast carelessly aside.
The human spirit is a wonderful thing --- the Oklahoma survivors will bury their dead, recover as best they can, rebuild and move forward. Others will help them do that. That's the way life works.
Meanwhile, the birds are singing early-morning songs here and the sun is near to rising. It's a great day to be alive.
