And it would be appropriate to send flowers to any same-sex couple you know. I'm thinking of two especially this morning.
This is the fourth anniversary of that day in 2009 when the Iowa Supreme Court ruled that denying gay and lesbian couples the right to marry violated the equal protection clause of our state constitution, upholding a district court ruling of Aug. 30, 2007. Since then, roughly 6,000 same-sex couples have married in Iowa.
Despite the best efforts of our Republican and Christian neighbors, thanks largely to the efforts of Democrats and our thoughtful and intelligent friends and allies --- including many who are Christian, too, the ruling stands.
Some would say God is on our side, blessed be her name. I'll just say thanks.
