Shrove Tuesday pancakes (for a good cause)!

This is, for those of us who follow the traditional calendar of the western church, the last Sunday after the Epiphany. Next comes Ash Wednesday, then the season of Lent, a time among other things for introspection and careful thought about exactly what this business of being a Christ-follower is all about.

Before that, however, comes Shrove Tuesday --- traditionally a time to party a little (and clean out the cupboard to avoid temptation during the Lenten fast). Hence Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday --- and pancakes.

We'll be serving our annual Shrove Tuesday pancake supper from 5 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday at St. Andrew's Church, Highway 14 North. The all-you-can-eat menu will included pancakes, ham, juice and coffee or tea. Hy-Vee, again, has very kindly donated the ham.

Admission is by free-will donation and all proceeds will go to the Lucas County Ministry Center Food Bank, which serves hundreds of our neighbors yearly who might otherwise go hungry.

Our partners, in addition to Hy-Vee, include the Girl Scout troop whose members ordinarily meet on Thursdays in the parish hall. They'll be doing the serving; we'll be doing to cooking. And the scouts also will have Girl Scout cookies for sale.

Hope to see you Tuesday!
