Withdrawal of Olympic Proportions

Well it's not that bad, actually, but I am missing the Olympics --- turning the TV on at 7 with three or more hours of decent entertainment guaranteed as I wandered around the house, stopping in the living room now and then to see if anything I wanted to see was on.

Loved the closing ceremony; hated NBC's bone-headed decision to cut away before it was finished to preview a show developed by some guy named Jerry Seinfeld who I'm told once considered himself amusing. But it's NBC's network, I guess, and they can do what they want.

Heck, I even got to like Matt, Meredith, Al and Ann bright and early most mornings on Grouse Mountain.

Just to entertain myself I looked up the NBC schedule for tonight --- a show called "Chuck" that I watched once some time ago; and a two-hour "Law and Order" episode involving a kid suspected of murdering a family and something about another kid whose flaming corpse was discovered during the proceedings. Jeez.

Too bad the U.S. couldn't have won hockey gold, but since it seemed as if Canada would have a coast-to-coast nervous breakdown without that medal, perhaps it's just as well we didn't.

For what it's worth, I thought our neighbors did a wonderful job of organizing and presenting the Olympics, I enjoyed NBC's coverage --- telling worthwhile stories about worthwhile people time after time --- and was glad to see lots of British Columbia, a place I've never been and most likely will never get to.

Took a dislike to only two athletes --- figure skater Evgeni Plushenko, who tripped over his own ego and took the least-sportsmanlike medal after Evan Lysacek took the gold; and God help me Lindsey Vonn. Golly, I feel guilty about the accelerating urge to smack Lindsey as the games progressed. I know she's the greatest living women downhill skier --- lord knows were told that often enough as she bruised herself, broke herself, straddled a gate and just flat out fell down, contributing mightily to teammate Julia Mancuso's failure to contend for a third medal. I'm sure Linsey's a wonderful person.

Now how many days is it until the London summer games?

I've been getting a bit more reading done now that the Olympics are over.

I agree with your feelings of wanting to smack Lindsey Vonn around a bit. I told my wife the other night that she seemed like Bodie Miller back in Torino and seemed in it more for her own selfish reasons than to represent our country.
