So many great memories of being there with a large family group and the awesome food that was served. In the 1970’s I remember taking the one hour ride from Pella to Derby to get a taste of the cinnamon rolls and to just experience the place. The mismatched decor was perfect. And various dishes were just set on random tables and buffets. Just walk around and pick what you want. It was run by sisters?? I’m sorry to hear it has been closed a long time. What an experience. What a place! We kids used to run up to Gus's at noon and get those fabulous cinnamon rolls! Would put in an order ahead, as we did not have much time. I have had relation live in Derby from the start until 2005, but no more, guess all good things truly do come to an end! I would love to see photos of the inside of the Derby Cafe. Do you have any? A treat, but as a kid it was also torture to endure the 20-minute (?) ride from Chariton and back. There was always a line! We kids could run around in the park area across the street but we had to be careful crossing the street. :-) I also remember the Derby Opera House. Wow, memories.Whitneyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07636206212678194409noreply@blogger.com
